Turn Around & Shoot 'Em Down

from Yokefellow by Gran Bel Fisher

/

lyrics

The lonely desperado was making his way
through a post apocalyptic zombie U.S.A.
With a pistol at his side and an AR on his back
it gets lonely out here with no one to attack

The lonely desperado makes his way through the field
into abandoned old towns, to the black and grey hills
All that is left is the dead of the trees, then he hears someone say
“Drop straight to your knees”

And the wind it blew strong
and the wind it grew fair
He said, “ I’ll turn around and shoot you down,
and not even care.”

The lonely desperado looks slowly behind. He sees a cop uniform
with a kid at his side. He said give me your gun or it will be your last.
He said I’ll give you my gun if you give me that badge.

And the wind it blew strong
and the wind it grew fair
He said, “ I’ll turn around and shoot you down,
and not even care.”

The cop said no need it’s easy to see your out here like us
searching desperately. We came up from Atlanta and this is Jake by my side.
He just turned 13 and watched his whole family die. We got a lot of faith
but we gotta draw the line between the wicked running ramped killing everyone
at night. I’ve seen a lot of things and I know this little place. It’s called the love and blood of Christ and I’ve seen it spilt a million times.

And the wind it blew strong
and the wind it grew fair
He said, “If you turn around and shoot us all down, we all will be dead”
(continued)

The lonely desperado said “okay,
have you had anything to eat?”
they said “No, not for days.”
He looks down at Jake and pulls the gun from
his side. He shoots the cop in the face right between
both his eyes. As he drops to the ground Jake ttys to run
and hide. The desperado says “Stay, you need to survive.
We’ll cook up the cop and we’ll eat him tonight. Then I’ll teach you to shoot
and then I’ll take my own life. What the cop said is true about the blood of the
lamb. The only hope now is you turning into a man. I’m old and I’m tired and I’ve
longed for this today, but tomorrow when I’m gone cure the meat from my legs. Ration your food and navigate with the stars and pray for the day when you finally find God.”

And the wind it blew strong
and the wind it grew fair
He said, “If you turn around and shoot em’ all down, but tonight enjoy the
bacon and legs.”
